What are Medicare Medigap Plans?

  • You qualify for Medigap plans, which are provided by private insurers, by having both Traditional Medicare Parts A & B.
  • The function of a Medigap policy is to cover expenses like deductibles and copays that traditional Medicare does not.
  • Though there are some restrictions on initial deductibles, Medigap policies help pay the 20% of the negotiated costs that Medicare does not pay providers.
  • Like Medicare Advantage Plans, Medigap plans can be explored here at Quote&Insure.

    Why Part C?

For many retirees the reassurance that they will have protection from unusual medical expense is the defining reason for a Part C policy. Assurance that deductibles, copays and services that are not provided by Traditional Medicare will be covered in part by a plan that has a fixed monthly premium is the major selling point. There are a range of Medical Advantage Plans some that cost little more than Part B of Traditional Medicare.

When can I buy A Part C Plan?

There are three regularly available time periods when you may purchase such plans. Initial Enrollment Period (when you first become eligible for Medicare,) Open Enrollment Period from October 15th to Dec 7th and Open Enrollment from January 1st to March 31st each year. Special enrollment periods may also be available to you if you have certain life qualifying events. For the most complete information go to medicare.gov
